Superhero short stories are on the rise. Haven’t you been listening to AwesomeMan?
Several recently published short story anthologies have collected works with a superhero focus. The Darker Mask is one such example. So is Who Can Save Us Now?: Brand-New Superheroes and Their Amazing (Short) Stories.
My favorite anthology, and yes, partly because I’m in it, is Able to…, published in 2006 by neoNuma Arts. The anthology takes a “literary look” at super powers, according to editor Neil Ellis Orts. No capes or masks in this one, but each story focuses on characters with extraordinary abilities.

If you subscribe to the Well Told Tales podcast, it’s a good bet that you love zombies. But the guy in this story is taking that concept to an entirely new level.

Writer Douglass R. Burchill (WTT 10: ‘Cellar Meat’) tipped us off to the not-for-profit Patchwork Project, which aims to engage the horror community to battle domestic abuse.
The Patchwork Web site has a small, but growing number of horror stories. Horror-themed art is also coming soon. It also has information how you can help protect others — or yourself — from domestic violence.
From Douglas:
“Go to www.patchworkproject.com to find out how to help out in promoting domestic abuse awareness whether you like to read, write, or create art in the horror genre. If you, or someone you know, are in an abusive relationship, visit Patchwork to find out where you can get help.”
Good cause, good content — definitely worth a bookmark,
